Burton Albion boss NIgel Clough signed Buxton for Derby County eight years ago.
Burton Albion are leading Derby County in the race to re-sign Jake Buxton, according to The Sun.
Buxton, who has played for both clubs, is a free agent after quitting Wigan Athletic earlier this month.

The 32-year-old is said to want to be closer to his family in Nottinghamshire, and The Sun reports that both Burton and Derby are interested in signing him, along with League Two Notts County.
However, it is Brewers boss Nigel Clough who looks set to win the defender’s signature, ahead of former club Derby – and player, Gary Rowett.
Clough managed both Buxton and Rowett during his first Pirelli Stadium spell, and took the former with him to Pride Park in 2009.
It is claimed that Burton are able to offer the Sutton-in-Ashfield native greater first team opportunities, with Derby already bringing in Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom this summer – although Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell could leave.

Buxton, who only left Pride Park a year ago, played in all but four of Wigan Athletic’s Championship fixtures as they were relegated last term.
