Burton Albion defender Ryan Delaney is being monitored by Celtic, the Irish Independent reports.

Delaney is currently on loan to League of Ireland side Cork City, where his performances are said to have attracted the attention of clubs in the UK, of which Celtic side are understood to be one.

The 20-year-old signed for Burton a year ago from Wexford Youths, but is yet to feature for the Brewers’ first team and was sent to Cork in January to build his experience.

Celtic have recently lost centre-back Eoghan O’Connell to Bury and Delaney, who can also play at left-back, could prove a useful long-term addition for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The report claims Delaney, who has scored an impressive five goals in 17 games for Cork, is wanted permanently by John Caulfield’s side, and could even spend the rest of the Irish season on loan at Turners Cross.

According to Transfermarkt, his contract at Burton runs until June 2018.

Celtic were recently linked with a move for Cork striker Sean Maguire, who has since signed for the Brewers’ Championship rivals Preston North End?
