Burnley are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing the midfielder on a free.
According to an exclusive report from French publication L’Equipe, Burnley are interested in signing free agent Stéphane Mbia, as Sean Dyche looks to add further quality to his defensive midfield ranks at Turf Moor.
The transfer window in England closed on August 31st, but clubs are still able to bring in players who are out of contract and available on free transfers.
And Mbia would be a great addition for the Clarets.
The 67-capped Cameroon international is a deep-lying midfielder by trade, but he can also operate as a centre-back, and his tenacious, aggressive and hard-working approach to the game seems to be ideally suited to Dyche’s setup at Burnley.
Mbia, 32, has extensive experience of playing at the very highest level, having spent spells with Marseille and Sevilla, and that would surely be a huge asset for the Clarets.
The Cameroonian has spent the last two years playing in China with Hebei China Fortune, and a move to the Premier League might be just what he needs to help breath fire back into his career.
Burnley will not have things all their own way, however, in the chase for Mbia, with L’Equipe claiming that Sampdoria are also interested in signing the 32-year-old.
