Burnley are hoping to sign Harrison Reed from Premier League rivals Southampton this summer after his fine loan spell at Fulham, according to The Mail.
The Essex-born 25-year-old certainly has a thing or two in common with both Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood.
Like two of the first names on Sean Dyche’s team sheet, Reed is a player who prides himself upon being a reliable presence in the midfield battleground, linking the play effectively with neat, tidy passing while providing plenty of energy and thrust.
The former England youth star has not made an appearance for Southampton since the 2016/17 season but his form during a series of impressive loan spells has caught the eye of a top-flight rival.
The Mail reports that Burnley are looking to offer Reed the chance to finally prove himself as a Premier League player.
With just 12 months left on his contract at St Mary’s, Ralph Hasenhuttl may be forced to let Reed go before he becomes a free agent.
The diminutive schemer might not be the most glamourous member of a Fulham squad chock-full of proven Championship talent but he has been every bit as important to The Cottagers’ promotion push as Aleksandar Mitrovic, Bobby Reid and Anthony Knockaert.
“In general we always have a look at every loan player, how he does, what we need, what we do on what positions,” Hasenhuttl told Hampshire Live when asked about Reed last week.
“It’s fantastic that he makes a good job in the Championship and we will discuss this personality internally and we will see what we do.”
