Burnley have identified Queens Park Rangers speedster Bright Osayi-Samuel as a potential replacement for Dwight McNeil at Turf Moor this summer, according to The Sun (5 July, page 61).

Though the winger might have cost the Clarets two points against Sheffield United on Sunday, skewing a glorious chance wide of the mark minutes before John Egan thrashed home an equaliser at the other end, you can guarantee that his signature will be sought-after when the transfer window opens.

McNeil has been heavily linked with a transfer. And, amid apparent interest from Everton, Newcastle and Crystal Palace, The Sun claims that Burnley are anticipating plenty of interest in their left-footed wing wizard.

Osayi-Samuel, then, would have big boots to fill on Lancashire.

The Sun claims that the QPR flyer has interest not only from Burnley but also from a relegation-threatened Bournemouth team who appear to be sleepwalking into the Championship.

So if the £8 million-rated Osayi-Samuel is hoping to test himself in the Premier League, you’d imagine that Turf Moor would be his destination of choice.

“I’m not sure many teams have that blistering pace. As long as he knows how to use it and that’s the key for him learning the game,” Rangers boss Mark Warburton told the Kilburn Times in January after Osayi-Samuel inspired QPR to a 6-1 thrashing of Cardiff City.

“He’s working so hard. He’s got that sheer pace which terrifies defenders and when he uses it wisely like he did today he looks a real handful.”

With six goals and eight assists in all competitions, this old-school, chalk-booted wideman has ensured that it is not just Eberechi Eze hogging the headlines at Loftus Road.
