Burnley will launch a £15 million bid for Nicolas Pepe in January, after missing out on summer targets including Matt Phillips of West Bromwich Albion, the Sun on Sunday reports (August 19th, page 60).

The newspaper claims Burnley’s interest in Pepe, who plays in France with Lille, was held up as Sean Dyche tried instead for players with Premier League experience.

But moves for Yannick Bolasie of Everton and Phillips reportedly failed, with West Brom’s asking price said to be above the Clarets’ valuation.

And according to the Sun on Sunday, Dyche, the Burnley manager, is ‘keen to win the battle’ for Pepe, who was also wanted by Southampton.

The newspaper adds that Burnley’s scouts are also pushing for the 23-year-old, who it is claimed Lille will sell for the right price.

Pepe scored and assisted in the Hauts-de-France side’s opening day win against Rennes.
