Sean Dyche is a fan of Jed Wallace and James McCarthy while Manchester United’s forgotten man Phil Jones could also be on his way to Burnley, as reported by The Sun (5 January, page 51).
While the Clarets aren’t going to splash the cash like a Qatari-backed state-sponsored superclub, the £200 million takeover by US investor ALK Capital promises to give one of the Premier League’s more modest clubs the sort of financial freedom they’ve never had before.
The Sun reports Burnley have identified a number of targets already, although Dyche’s approach to the transfer market remains unchanged.
The gravel-voiced gaffer is still prioritising reliable, home-grown talent and talented lower-league prospects.
Young midfielders Lewis O’Brien and Jason Knight, of Huddersfield Town and Derby County respectively, are targets along with Millwall’s talismanic winger Wallace.
The former Portsmouth forward produced ten goals and 12 assists during a career-best 2019/20 season and has been the stand-out figure in a difficult campaign for Millwall this time around too.

O’Brien, Knight and Wallace are expected to cost about £10 million.
The Sun adds Burnley have shown a willingness to pay a chunk of Jones’ £130,000-a-week wages if the England international is to swap his Old Trafford purgatory for a fresh start at Turf Moor.
McCarthy, Crystal Palace’s experienced Ireland international, is another name in the frame.
