Burnley have reportedly hit a breakthrough with Dinamo Zagreb to sign Croatian attacker Mislav Orsic, who could join before Monday’s deadline.
According to the Telegraph, the Clarets have agreed to a £7m deal with Zagreb over their 29-year-old winger. Orsic has been one of the Croatian side’s best players over the past four years as well as a star for the national team.
The attacker has hit an impressive 67 goals and registered 31 assists for Zagreb since joining in 2018, with Orsic’s main claim to fame coming last season when the winger scored a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League to eliminate Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side from Europe.
Since then, the forward has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs. However, Burnley look to be close to winning the race for the highly-rated attacker, with Orsic likely to replace Chris Wood in the squad.
The New Zealand international joined Newcastle United in a deal worth £25m. And whilst Orsic isn’t a natural striker, the Croat will bring much-needed attacking intent and creativity to the Burnley squad in the second half of the season.
Relegation is a real threat for Sean Dyche’s side this season, yet the signing of Orsic is a step in the right director for Burnley as well as a solid replacement for Wood, with the attacker one of the most potent goalscorers outside of Europe’s top-five leagues.
Orsic signing could lift Burnley from threat of relegation

The Croatian attacker has often been noted as a prolific finisher with a determination to show off his quality in a bigger league. And with Burnley, Orsic finally has the chance to show a wider audience just how good he is, and it could be massive for the Clarets.
With so many games in hand, Burnley have a real shot at securing Premier League safety if they play their cards right. And if Orsic can get to grips with English football soon, Dyche’s side will have one heck of an asset amongst their ranks in the second half of the season.
