According to the Daily Mail, Burnley are rivalling Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign highly-rated Mainz attacking midfielder Robin Quaison.
The 26-year-old is coming off the back of an excellent campaign in the Bundesliga, netting 13 goals and earning rave reviews for his performances.
Quaison joined Mainz from Palermo. He was originally dubbed the ‘Scandinavian Xavi’ for his impressive movement, ability to pick a pass and retain possession.

But the Bundesliga official website now liken him more to Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry.
Quaison now plays much further forward, often as a supporting attacker or out wide.
The Daily Mail claim his progress has caught the attentions of Tottenham. But it is Spurs’ Premier League rivals Burnley who are pushing ahead with their interest.
The editorial say Burnley are eyeing an £8 million move for him. Quaison, however, has a £14 million release clause with his contract expiring next summer.
His situation leaves Mainz in a tricky spot. Do the Bundesliga club cash in on him now, or risk losing him for free next summer if they can’t tie him down to a new deal?
Burnley, meanwhile, may see Quaison as an ideal addition. The Clarets saw the attack-minded Jeff Hendrick leave on a free in the summer, later joining Newcastle United.
Hendrick’s exit leaves a void which manager Sean Dyche has yet to fill.

Tottenham, on the other hand, need to make further attacking additions. Spurs looked blunt in their opening 1-0 defeat at home to Everton on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho’s side have managed to sign Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but without attacking reinforcements, a top four finish looks a tall order.
