Burnley are reportedly hoping to bring West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson to Turf Moor in a club-record deal.
According to a report from The Sun, Burnley plan to make a bid for West Brom star Craig Dawson imminently, in what could prove to be a club-record move for the Clarets.
Dawson is currently set to spend a second season outside of the Premier League after the Baggies suffered penalty heartbreak in their play-off semi-final against Aston Villa.
But Sean Dyche is apparently hoping to hand him the chance to return to the top flight this summer. The Sun reports that Burnley plan to offer £15 million for the 29-year-old, and Dawson could be on his way to Turf Moor within the next week.
It would be a real blow for West Brom to lose the versatile defender. Although he was not exactly popular with the supporters at the start of the season, he regained his position as a real stalwart of the side, and it was his goal that ultimately took the Baggies to penalties against Villa.
The Sun notes that West Brom plan to let some of their better players leave as they look to cut costs, so perhaps receiving a £15 million bid for someone who turns 30 in 12 months may leave the Baggies board tempted to cash in.
But with Dwight Gayle not set to return to the Hawthorns next season (via The Sun), losing another key player would make the next manager’s job even more difficult as they look to go one step further next year.
