According to TEAMtalk, York City winger Vinnie Steels is closing in on a move to Burnley, who are seemingly set to beat the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle United, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves to his signature.

A host of non-league players have gone on to become Premier League regulars in recent years, with the likes of Chris Smalling, Michail Antonio, Jamie Vardy, Dwight Gayle and Charlie Austin all featuring in the top flight.

That has led to Premier League clubs considering more and more non-league players in the hope of unearthing the next gem in a bargain deal, and one more non-league player is heading to the top flight.

TEAMtalk note that Burnley are closing in on York City winger Vinnie Steels, with York sporting director Dave Penney confirming that the Clarets have permission to discuss a move with the teenager.

Steels, 16, only joined York from Darlington in February, but he has already made his first-team debut, and his potential appears to have tempted Burnley into swooping for the wide man.

Steels will go into the Burnley development ranks and will hope to become a first-team player in the coming years, but the report also notes that Sean Dyche’s men are set to beat major competition for his signature.

It’s claimed that Premier League heavyweights such as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been keen on Steels, as have other Premier League clubs Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Middlesbrough and Sunderland are also credited with an interest in Steels, but barring a late change of heart, the teenage winger is set to join Burnley – and many will be keeping tabs on his progress in the future.
