Rangers‘ decision to release Ciaran Dickson months after signing a new contract and making his first-team debut came as a surprise to many – however, a report has claimed that a no-show for training played a big part in his Ibrox exit.
According to the Athletic, Dickson failed to appear for the Auchenhowie session as the highly-rated teen torpedoed his own Rangers career.
Dickson was handed his first-team debut in last season’s League Cup win over Falkirk in November before signing a new contract a few months later – only for Rangers to confirm his exit last month as a number of Academy players moved on.
The teenage midfielder has impressed for the Gers’ Academy teams, catching the eye on a number of occasions, with the Sun reporting he is being eyed up for a move to Burnley.
However, several apparent off-field issues have done Dickson absolutely no favours as he looks for a new club, six months after signing a long-term contract with Rangers.
Dickson’s Rangers exit doesn’t bode well for his long-term prospects
Whatever Dickson thought he could achieve by skipping training is anyone’s guess but with one senior appearance to his name, it simply reflects badly on him.

His Rangers fallout has echoes of Darren Cole and Michael O’Halloran’s Ibrox departures after both missed reserve games for no reason.
While no-showing training might have got Dickson the exit from Rangers that he wanted, every single club who take a look at him now will have serious reservations about signing a player who thinks he’s far bigger than he is.
