Burnley are reportedly interested in VfB Stuttgart winger Darko Churlinov, who could become Vincent Kompany’s tenth signing of the summer transfer window.
According to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten, the Championship side are keen on bringing the 22-year-old attacker to Turf Moor after Churlinov impressed out on loan at Schalke 04 last season, with the forward guiding the German giants back to the Bundesliga after just one season in the second-tier.
Labelled by Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat as a ‘mentality monster’ as per the report, Burnley would have to pay a significant fee to sign Churlinov this summer, with the Clarets already bringing in nine players this window for a combined fee of £11m according to Transfermarkt.
However, with the recent sale of Dwight McNeil to Everton and the previous departures of Nick Pope to Newcastle United and Nathan Collins to Wolves, Burnley are still in a position to spend money this summer on new players, and Churlinov could be an outstanding addition to the squad.
A left-sided winger who has already scored this season for Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal, the North Macedonia international was impressive for Schalke last term with Churlinov bagging three goals and six assists in the 2. Bundesliga, and at just 22, it makes sense why Burnley are interested.
Able to play on both the right and centrally as a centre-forward, Churlinov would bring a lot of attacking versatility to Burnley should Kompany manage to sign the Skopje-born attacker, yet Stuttgart’s demands could be too much for the Clarets despite their departures this summer.
Burnley should push hard to sign Churlinov this summer
With a 1-0 win against Huddersfield Town in the opening game of the Championship season, Burnley have started the new campaign off in perfect fashion, with Kompany already bringing a new style of football to the club that will likely convert many critics into fans of the Clarets, and signing Churlinov could be part of this strategy.
Indeed, Burnley’s policy this summer has been to sign young exciting players who can develop together and all hit their primes in time for a return to the Premier League, and Churlinov fits this philosophy to a tee, and the chance to play under Kompany could convince the winger to sign for the Turf Moor side in the coming weeks.
