The German striker could potentially replace Andre Gray at Turf Moor, if Burnley cannot keep hold of their star man.

Burnley have expressed an interest in signing striker Dani Schahin, according to Sky Sports.

Schahin is currently on the books of Dutch Eredivisie side Roda JC, where he is out of contract at the end of the coming campaign.

But given the former Germany Under-20 international’s lack of goals, not only last season – three in 21 appearances – but throughout his career, Burnley’s apparent interest is somewhat hard to fathom.

It’s not like the Clarets would be buying potential, with Schahin turning 28 last month and having played much of his football in Germany’s lower leagues.

And while the Ukraine-born player did manage to score eight goals in 31 Bundesliga outings for Fortuna Dusseldorf, that spell ended four years ago.

Burnley have already added Jonathan Walters to their attacking ranks this summer, although they could be in the market for further recruits if their coveted top scorer Andre Gray is sold.

Whether Schahin would be an adequate replacement, however, remains to be seen.
