Burnley striker Andre Gray allegedly wants a £100,000-a-week contract.

According to the Daily Star, Burnley striker Andre Gray is demanding a contract worth £100,000-a-week, meaning he is likely to leave Turf Moor this summer.

Gray, 25, joined Burnley from Brentford in a big-money deal in the summer of 2015, and he excelled in the Championship by scoring 23 goals in 41 games for the Clarets.

Last term, Gray – a former non-league striker with Hinckley United and Luton Town – played in the Premier League for the first time, and showed some promise with nine goals in 32 games.

Gray now has just one year left on his contract at Turf Moor, and with the Daily Star claiming that he wants a huge £100,000-a-week deal – beyond Burnley’s reach – a summer exit appears to be on the cards.

The report notes that Everton are keen on a deal for Gray as they seek to boost their attacking options, but much like Burnley are baulking at Gray’s demands, Everton should follow suit.

Whilst Everton certainly need attacking reinforcements whether Romelu Lukaku stays or not, splashing £100,000-a-week on Gray after a nine-goal season would be a risky decision, putting him among the club’s highest earners after just one Premier League campaign.

Gray’s transfer fee may be reduced given that he’s inside the last year of his contract, but Ronald Koeman and Steve Walsh should be looking at Gray’s demands and wondering whether they can land a better option without loading their wage bill quite so heavily.

Gray looks set to leave Burnley one way or another this summer, and even though he would bring pace to the Everton attack, the Toffees should only continue to pursue a move if Gray reduces those alleged wage demands.
