Glasgow Rangers summer signing Bruno Alves will reportedly decide today whether to leave Ibrox or not.

Bruno Alves of Rangers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Bruno Alves will make a decision on whether he will leave Rangers and join Serie A side Benevento or not today.

Alves has endured a frustrating time since arriving at Ibrox in the summer. Injury and some underwhelming form have restricted the veteran to 14 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Gers. His time with the club so far was perhaps best summed up during the Light Blues’ most recent competitive fixture when he had to be replaced just 18 minutes into the Old Firm game due to injury.

And it appears that the clash with Celtic may prove to be Alves’ last in a Rangers shirt, with the Record reporting that the Gers have agreed a deal with Benevento for Alves to potentially return to Serie A just a few months after he left Cagliari.

The Record adds that the 36-year-old plans to give the division’s bottom side his answer today regarding he will join them this month, but he will have to factor in that a move away from Ibrox will see the defender have to accept a significant pay-cut.

If Alves does leave, then many of the supporters may well reflect on his time with the club as something of a missed opportunity. Had he stayed fit, he may have proved to be a brilliant addition given his experience and quality.

However, it has never quite worked out for the Portuguese, and with the Record suggesting that he is one of Rangers’ highest-earners, a move may suit both clubs. And the defender now looks set to decide whether the move also suits him imminently.
