Report: Bruno Alves terminates Rangers contract, set for Parma move

Glasgow Rangers and Bruno Alves are reportedly parting company after one season at Ibrox.

Bruno Alves has terminated his contract with Rangers and will leave Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club in the summer transfer window, according to Gianlucadimarzio.com.

Alves joined Rangers in the summer of 2017 after leaving Italian club Cagliari, and it has been reported that the Portugal international central defender is now set to join Serie A outfit Parma on a free transfer.

No big loss for Rangers

Much was expected of Alves when he arrived at Rangers last summer, given his quality and pedigree.

However, 36-year-old failed to make a huge impact at the Ibrox club and struggled with the game in Scotland.

True, the Euro 2016 winner had injury issues last season, but even when fully fit, the former FC Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg centre-back did not play well consistently.

Alves, who was part of the Portugal squad at the World Cup in Russia this summer, made 20 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers last season, according to Transfermarkt.com.

Following the signings of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic in the summer transfer window, the reported exit of Alves will not be a big loss for Rangers.
