Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce’s budget could be even smaller than first reported, according to the Daily Mail.

The Northern Echo had suggested that Newcastle would have £35 million to spend this summer, after their takeover fell through.

But the Mail claim that Newcastle may actually have £5 million less than that, and actually Bruce could be given just £30 million to spend.

If that is the case then it could be a huge blow to the Magpies, as Bruce has made no secret about his desire to improve the quality of his squad.

Bruce seemingly had big transfer plans this summer, but with such a limited budget, Newcastle could struggle to land the recruits that they wanted at the start of the summer.

Newcastle may now have to prioritise signings, and there could still be areas of weakness in their squad, unless they can seek out a few bargain buys in the coming weeks.

Bruce has hinted that he wants Newcastle to play more stylishly next season, so it could now be that their focus is on bringing in attacking players this summer.
