Newcastle United face a big game against Manchester United today.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are set to bring in Ciaran Clark and Matty Longstaff for today’s game against Manchester United.
The Magpies were humiliated against Leicester City last week, losing 5-0 in a terrible display, and they need to hit back today against an out-of-form United side.
Steve Bruce may be looking to ring the changes for today’s game at St James’ Park, and two players look set to come into the Newcastle side for their first Premier League appearances of the season.
It’s claimed that Longstaff will be brought in to replace the suspended Isaac Hayden, whilst defender Clark is in line to come in for Paul Dummett in defence.
19-year-old Longstaff coming into the side means he will partner his brother Sean in the heart of the Newcastle midfield, which will no doubt be a proud moment for the Newcastle academy staff.
Longstaff’s only appearance of the season came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester City, and the same goes for 30-year-old defender Clark.
Clark started just nine Premier League games last season, but bringing him into the team today will leave many questioning just what system Bruce is planning.
Dummett played at left back last week, and throwing Clark – primarily a centre back – into that role may be a surprise, but it would make more sense if he’s reverting to a back five, allowing Clark to play as the left-sided centre back, though there will then be confusion over the left wing back spot.
