According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are pursuing a January loan deal for Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

It’s claimed that Steve Bruce is looking to use his strong relationship with Chelsea to engineer a January move and beat European competition.

Chelsea sent Tammy Abraham on loan to Bruce’s Aston Villa in 2018, and Bruce may now hope to pull off a similar deal for Tomori.

The centre back rejected West Ham United on deadline day in October, and Newcastle could now swoop in to sign him in January.

Tomori has made just one league appearance this season, coming on as a substitute against Liverpool in September to play 45 minutes.

His only action since then has come in the Carabao Cup, as the 22-year-old is now fifth-choice at Chelsea behind Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

Tomori needs first-team action in order to develop, and Newcastle could offer him that between January and the end of the season.

Newcastle have question marks over the future of Fabian Schar, so Tomori could come in and compete with Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez in a budget-friendly move.
