Aston Villa are reportedly pursuing a deal for West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass.
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce wants a reunion with West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass – but may only be able to offer a loan deal with an option to purchase.
Villa have focused on bringing in experienced players this summer, as Bruce has landed John Terry, Christopher Samba, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan, all of whom possess vast experience in the Premier League.
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is the only signing Villa have made under the age of 28, and Bruce could be about to launch a move for another experienced player in order to boost his squad before the transfer deadline later this month.
The Daily Mail report that Villa are keen on signing West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass, who has been something of a flop at the London Stadium since arriving from Hull City in January.
Snodgrass, 29, hit seven goals and three assists in 20 Premier League appearances for Hull last season before signing for West Ham, where he was supposed to be the replacement for Dimitri Payet following his move back to Marseille.
However, Scotland international Snodgrass failed to impress with West Ham last season, notching no goals and two assists in 15 appearances – and the arrival of Marko Arnautovic this summer appears to have pushed him down the pecking order for Slaven Bilic’s men.
Bruce – who signed Snodgrass for Hull in 2014 – now wants a reunion with the winger at Villa Park, but whether Villa can convince him to drop into the Championship remains to be seen.
Additionally, Villa have to sell before they can buy due to Financial Fair Play regulations, and it’s noted that Villa may have to offer a loan-to-buy deal for Snodgrass in order to get around those FFP rules, though whether West Ham would accept such a deal is another matter.
