Steve Bruce is reportedly preparing moves to put together a coaching staff for Aston Villa.
Former Hull manager Steve Bruce
According to The Sun, Steve Bruce is desperate to land the Aston Villa job – and has even put together names for a potential coaching staff.
Bruce, 55, has been out of work since leaving Hull City over the summer, but could be in line for a return to management with Villa.
Nigel Spink
Roberto Di Matteo lost his job as Villa boss on Monday after just 124 days in the job, in which he won just one Championship game in 11 attempts, ending with a 2-0 defeat to Preston.
Owner Tony Xia is now in the process of appointing a new boss, and has to balance Bruce’s record of four promotions from the Championship with his extensive history with Villa’s fierce rivals Birmingham City.
Steve Bruce and Hull’s first team coach Stephen Clemence
The Sun now report that Bruce is desperate to land the job, but Xia does have some reservations about his past with Birmingham – and Bruce is even putting together names for a potential coaching staff at Villa Park.
It’s claimed that Bruce wants to bring in a Villa hero to work alongside him to appease fans, and former goalkeeper Nigel Spink – who played more than 450 games for Villa in close to 20 years with the club – is in line for a Villa Park return should Bruce secure the job.
Middlesbrough assistant head coach Steve Agnew
Another name Bruce is allegedly keen to bring to Villa Park is Stephen Clemence. Clemence was not only signed by Bruce at Birmingham, but they also worked together at Hull City, with Clemence still at the KCOM Stadium as a coach.
Finally, Bruce reportedly wants Middlesbrough coach Steve Agnew as well, given that the 50-year-old was Bruce’s assistant at Hull City for more than two years, meaning there could be a number of incomings at Villa Park in the coming days.
