Steve Bruce is reportedly set to clinch the Aston Villa job today.
According to The Mirror, Steve Bruce is set to bring three coaches with him to Aston Villa, as he is expected to be appointed later today.
The 55-year-old guided Hull City to the Premier League with a play-off final victory over Sheffield Wednesday in May – but decided to leave the KCOM Stadium over the summer before their Premier League campaign even kicked off.
Former Hull City manager Steve Bruce
Now looking to get back into work, Bruce is set to return to management, as BBC Sport report that Bruce will be confirmed as the new Aston Villa manager today.
Villa have been looking for a new boss having sacked Roberto Di Matteo last week, but will reportedly appoint Bruce in time for this weekend’s local derby with Wolverhampton Wanderers – despite concerns from Villa fans about his previous allegiances with rivals Birmingham City.
Steve Bruce and Hull’s first team coach Stephen Clemence
Bruce may have won four promotions to the Premier League in his managerial career, but he’ll need to make a fast start to appease those fans that aren’t too keen on a former Birmingham player and manager taking charge of the club.
To aid his chances, Bruce has set about forming a coaching staff ready to join him at Villa Park – and reports suggest that three men could follow him to Villa.
Keith Bertschin
The Mirror claim that former Birmingham City striker Keith Bertschin will link up with Bruce again, having worked with him at Birmingham, Wigan, Sunderland and Hull – the latter of which he left in August having been sacked following Bruce’s exit.
Bertschin isn’t the only former Birmingham player to be targeted though, as Stephen Clemence – who played under Bruce at St. Andrews – is being eyed up for a move from Hull, where he is their first-team coach, whilst the Tigers also expect Bruce to target a reunion with their goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh as he seeks to team up with his former coaches once again.
