According to The Chronicle, Steve Bruce has made new enquiries in his attempts to bring a new centre back and striker to Newcastle United.

It’s claimed that Bruce isn’t finished pursuing new signings just yet, and wants a couple more additions at St James’ Park.

Newcastle need to get rid of some players first, with Fabian Schar, Florian Lejeune, Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar told they can go.

Still, Bruce has allegedly made contact over potential deals for strikers and defenders in the hope of adding to his squad – and two recently-linked players fit the bill in defence and up top.

Newcastle had teed up a deal for Arsenal defender Rob Holding, but Mikel Arteta has now scrapped that move due to David Luiz’s injury.

Another Arsenal player linked is Eddie Nketiah, with The Telegraph claiming that Newcastle are interested in taking him on loan.

Premier League rules mean Newcastle can’t take two players on loan from the same club, so it would have to be Holding or Nketiah rather than both.

Newcastle did just sign Callum Wilson, so convincing a club to loan out a young prospect could be a battle due to playing time concerns.

Newcastle’s outlay on Wilson and Jamal Lewis means that loans will now be looked at – and Arsenal could play a key role in Newcastle’s recruitment plans.
