According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has told Lee Charnley to get Callum Wilson signed as soon as possible.

It’s claimed that Bruce likes Bournemouth striker Josh King, but prefers to bring teammate Wilson to Newcastle instead.

Wilson is Bruce’s first-choice striking target this summer, and has now instructed managing director Charnley to get the deal done.

Bruce has at least done his part in finding a striker he really wants to sign, and if it doesn’t happen, the blame will be laid at Charnley’s door.

Wilson, 28, has suffered relegation with Bournemouth, and will need a return to the Premier League if he is to get himself back in contention for the England setup.

Newcastle can offer him that, and it’s now up to Mike Ashley and co to find the money for Bruce to bring him to St James’ Park.

His Premier League record is generally very good; he may have only scored seven goals last season, but he has hit 40 goals in 126 games, meaning he has a record of around one goal in every three games.

That’s an improvement on Joelinton’s record, and ultimately what Newcastle need in order to move forward – and Charnley needs to land a deal.
