Newcastle United are pushing for Steve Bruce to become their new manager.

According to The Northern Echo, Steve Bruce has already discussed Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans with Lee Charnley ahead of potentially becoming manager.
The Magpies have been pursuing a new manager for three weeks now having learned of Rafael Benitez’s departure, but there has still been no appointment.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Bruce is the top target, but it’s proving a little difficult convincing the Owls to let the 58-year-old go having only landed him earlier this year.
Still, Bruce is understood to have spoken to Newcastle’s managing director Charnley about Newcastle’s transfer plans, but he’s expected to have different power than Benitez did.
More emphasis will be placed on head of recruitment Steve Nickson, as whilst Benitez’s contract guaranteed he had final say on incoming transfers, Bruce is unlikely to get the same power.
That means Newcastle may well press ahead with signings even with Bruce’s situation unclear, as Nickson appears to be the man in charge of transfers now Benitez has gone.

A striker has to be a priority, and the Daily Mail actually report that Newcastle want a club-record £36million deal for Hoffenheim striker Joelinton tied up this week, which again hints at Nickson taking charge of incomings.
Another left back, right back, central midfielder, winger and attacker must be on the Newcastle radar, and whilst Bruce may have some signings in mind that he put forward to Charnley, he may well be given players to work with by Nickson instead.
