According to Danish news outlet Tipsbladet, Brondby have held talks over signing Leeds United striker Pawel Cibicki in the January transfer window.

Leeds brought in a host of players from around Europe over the summer, with striker Cibicki arriving from Malmo in his native Sweden with some hype.

The 23-year-old hit 12 goals in 81 games for Malmo whilst playing as a regular for the Swedish Under-21’s, and Leeds brought him in as a versatile forward who could play out wide or up front.

So far though, Cibicki’s time at Elland Road hasn’t been a success. His 52 minutes against QPR last weekend – in which he notched an assist – were his first Championship appearance of the season, and he is still looking to really break through under Thomas Christiansen this term.

Now, Danish news outlet Tipsbladet report that Brondby have held a meeting out signing Cibicki, with talks taking place at the Hilton in Copenhagen ahead of a possible January move.

However, Brondby’s sporting director Troels Bech added that he cannot comment on the speculation, refusing to be drawn on a possible move for Cibicki.

“I have difficulty commenting on something that is not a real possibility, and it also implies I had previously talked to him,” says Bech. “At some point, you’re really getting rid of names, so the easiest starting point is not to comment on some of them. If I had to comment on them all, I would by the way be a very busy man.” he added.

Signing Cibicki may be appealing to Brondby, bringing the forward back to Scandinavia, but it’s hard to see the forward leaving Elland Road so soon after this arrival.

Having featured and impressed against QPR last week, Cibicki should stay and persevere with Leeds, where he can still become a real success despite a slow start to life in West Yorkshire.
