According to the Daily Mail, Bristol City are lining up a move for Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn should top goalscorer Jonathan Kodjia leave the club.

The Robins have enjoyed a strong summer transfer window, landing the likes of Adam Matthews, Gary O’Neil, Callum O’Dowda, Jamie Paterson, Lee Tomlin and Tammy Abraham – but manager Lee Johnson may now lose his top striker.

Ivory Coast international Kodjia hit 19 league goals last season following a summer move from Angers, but the Daily Mail report that Aston Villa, Derby County and Hull City are all trying to sign the 26-year-old before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

If Kodjia does go, Bristol City will need to move quickly for a new striker – and the report adds that they have placed Rangers star Martyn Waghorn on a list of potential transfer targets.

Waghorn, also 26, only joined Rangers from Wigan Athletic last summer, but starred in the club’s promotion campaign last season as he hit 20 goals in 25 league games, handing him a total of 28 goals in 36 games in all competitions.

The former Sunderland and Leicester City man is currently out injured, but Bristol City are believed to be looking into a move for the player, given that Waghorn allegedly rejected a new contract earlier this summer.

Waghorn does still have two years left on his current deal though, meaning Rangers will be under little pressure to sell, unless the player really pushes for a move away from Ibrox in the next 48 hours.

Rangers do have another attacking option in new signing Joe Garner, but are unlikely to want Waghorn to leave – yet with Bristol City potentially bringing in huge funds from a Kodjia deal, the Robins may be able to dangle a major bid in front of Rangers.
