Bristol City defender Adam Webster had been on Aston Villa’s wishlist, but it seems that Brighton & Hove Albion or more likely to sign him now.

The Bristol Post had suggested that Villa wanted to sign Webster, but he proved to be too expensive a target.
Brighton have not been put off by Bristol City’s asking price though, and Webster could now move to the south coast for £25 million.
Villa may feel that they have made the right decision not going for Webster now.
The centre-back is unquestionably a talent, and could well be a great addition to Brighton’s team.

However, Villa have managed to sign three centre-backs for the same price as Webster, in the form of Ezri Konsa, Bjorn Engels and Kortney Hause.
Villa needed to make numerous defensive signings this summer, as their options were so short.
And spending so much on Webster never seemed realistic for Villa, as it would have taken up too much of a chunk of their budget, and still left them short at the back.
