Newcastle United can appoint Roberto Martinez for less than £2 million, the Daily Mail report.
Martinez to Newcastle?
Newcastle’s new owners are unlikely to be too put off from paying a large fee for a manager, given their huge levels of wealth.
However, the fact that Martinez is available so cheaply could make him an even more appealing option for the Magpies as they look for a replacement for Steve Bruce.
Martinez is considered to be one of the leading candidates to get the Newcastle job.
The Spaniard, who has accumulated 81 Premier League wins to date, is currently in charge of Belgium, and the national team are apparently not asking for huge amounts of compensation.
That is rather different to Villarreal, who want £7 million for Unai Emery – who has also been linked with the job at St. James’ Park.
Attacking football
If Newcastle did turn to Martinez then they would almost certainly play the front-foot style of football that most Newcastle fans want to witness.
Martinez is famed for his attacking approach, which has seen him have success at numerous clubs.

Indeed his former chairman at Wigan Athletic, Dave Whelan, labelled him a ‘brilliant’ manager in the Telegraph.
However, his time in England has generally seen his teams struggle defensively.
And that would be the major concern if he was to take the Newcastle hot-seat, with the team in a relegation dog-fight.
