Roberto Martinez is keen on taking the Tottenham Hotspur job, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Martinez is currently in charge of Belgium and he wants to lead the country at the European Championships, but the vacancy at Tottenham is said to appeal to him.

Martinez has some admirers in Tottenham’s camp, but it doesn’t appear that he is first choice at the moment.

Spurs do have other options in mind, but the Spaniard’s apparent willingness to take the job creates some intrigue.

Martinez may not be the most exciting name to potentially come in at Tottenham on paper, but there are some positives going for him.

The 47-year-old is actually still fairly youthful for a manager, despite having a vast amount of experience.

Martinez plays stylish, attacking football and has previously had success in the Premier League with Wigan Athletic, where he was labelled as ‘brilliant’ by former chairman Dave Whelan (Telegraph).

However, by moving to Tottenham he would be taking on a club side with far loftier ambitions than any of the previous domestic teams he has managed.

Martinez also struggled to meet expectations at Everton, with their defence leaky during his spell there, which would be a cause of concern for Tottenham.

Spurs struggled to shut out opposition teams with Jose Mourinho in charge, so with a more attacking minded coach there would have to be some worries about their backline.

The European Championships do finish well ahead of the new Premier League campaign, so Martinez would have time to arrive at Tottenham before pre-season started, if he was to take the job.
