Report: Brighton to make another bid for Sunderland’s Paddy McNair

Brighton and Hove Albion are expected to make a third bid for Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair in the coming days.

According to a report from the Shields Gazette, Brighton are expected to make a third bid for Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair this week after seeing their previous two offers knocked back by the Black Cats.

McNair certainly appears to be a wanted man right now, with the Shields Gazette reporting that the Seagulls have been in contact on two occasions, with their latest offer of £3.5 million being rejected, while a London-based side have seen a £3.75 million bid turned down.

The Shields Gazette adds that Chris Hughton’s men are set to come back in for the Northern Ireland international this week. The report suggests that while McNair has stated that he wants to be playing in the Premier League, he has not asked to leave the Stadium of Light.

It would be a huge blow for Sunderland to lose McNair this summer as he arguably has the potential to be the best player in League One next season having looked so impressive during the most recent Championship campaign.

The former Manchester United trainee scored five goals in just 16 appearances in the league this past season, including four in his last seven games for the Black Cats. It was not enough to keep them up, but it certainly hints that he could have a major say in how long their stay in the third tier is if he sticks around.

It does appear however, that Brighton may not be willing to take no for an answer when it comes to trying to agree terms with Sunderland over a potential summer move.
