Brighton and Hove Albion are preparing to make a bid of around £500,000 for Motherwell winger Marvin Johnson, according to Herald Scotland.
The Herald Scotland reports that the Seagulls have been watching the 25-year-old closely this season, having sent a scout to all of the Scottish Premiership side’s games, and are ready to confirm their interest by making an offer for the Englishman.
It is hardly surprising that Chris Hughton and his staff have been impressed by Johnson. In the five games that Mark McGhee’s men have played this term, the wide-man has scored in four of them, including the goal that proved to be the winner in their first league fixture of the campaign against Kilmarnock at the weekend.
However, the Herald Scotland reports that the bid is likely to receive a frosty reception from Well’s hierarchy. Though the club are open to the idea of letting arguably their best player leave this summer, the Herald Scotland reports that they want a fee of at least £1m.

As Johnson has never played in the Football League, it would perhaps be a gamble for Hughton to spend such an amount on him.
However, the impact he has made this season suggests that he would have something to offer in the Championship, and may be able to help Brighton clear the hurdle that proved just too big for them in last season’s promotion race.
