Rangers face a fight hanging onto James Tavernier with Brighton and Hove Albion keen to bring the Ibrox captain to the Premier League.

Brighton and Hove Albion are set to make a ‘formal approach’ for Rangers captain James Tavernier, according to 90Min, with manager Graham Potter a big fan of the rampaging right-back.
Since arriving at The Amex from Swansea City this summer, Potter hasn’t really been able to put his stamp on a Seagulls team who narrowly avoided the drop last season under Chris Hughton.
Matt Clarke and Leandro Trossard are the only new arrivals so far but there is still time and still gaps to fill – particularly at right-back following the retirement of long-serving fans’ favourite Bruno Saltor.
In an ideal world, Brighton want a new face to compete with Martin Montoya and 90Min believes that Potter would love to work with Tavernier on the South Coast.
And who can blame him? Tavernier is not only the inspirational skipper of one of British football’s most historic teams, he is also a remarkable source of goals and assists from the right-hand side.
In all competitions last season, the former Newcastle United youngster produced 20 assists and 17 goals, although most of those came from the penalty spot.

It almost goes without saying then that Rangers would rather avoid losing arguably their most influential player, especially as they look to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the table.
But a big-money bid could be too good to turn down. The Mail believes that £8 million could do the trick.
