The Championship side have already made an offer for the Republic of Ireland international this summer.

Brighton and Hove Albion have made an improved £4m bid for Blackburn Rovers star Shane Duffy, according to The Irish Sun.

The 24-year-old was the subject of a £2m offer in July, The Irish Sun claimed, but now Chris Hughton has returned by doubling the potential fee in the hope that it will be enough to tempt Rovers into selling their key man.

However, The Irish Sun reports that the Ewood Park hierarchy are not happy with Brighton’s latest offer as it includes a £500,000 add-on which will only be paid if the club secure promotion, and Blackburn would rather the entire amount be paid immediately.

It is not surprising that Owen Coyle’s men are digging their heels in regarding their talisman. Though the centre-back has endured a very bizarre campaign so far – most notably, scoring two own goals and getting sent off in the defeat at Cardiff – he is undoubtedly one of the most reliable defenders in the division.

And with Blackburn’s form suggesting that they are in for a difficult season – they are the only side in the second tier not to win a league game this term – selling Duffy would be a tremendous blow to their hopes of keeping their heads above water.

But if the Republic of Ireland international sees a switch to the Amex Stadium as a good move for his career, it may be difficult for Coyle to get the best out of him if he is forced to stay.
