Brighton and Hove Albion have opened talks with Sampdoria over a deal for defender Omar Colley – who has been linked with Leeds United.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (01/08, p70), as they claim the Seagulls are in negotiations over a potential deal.

Sampdoria are allegedly expecting a fee of around £8.5million for Colley, but Brighton’s first offer is short of that mark.

A meeting this coming week could now take place to try and thrash out a deal for Colley to join Brighton, with the Seagulls likely to increase their bid.

Graham Potter’s men will be in the market for a new centre back having seen Ben White leave Brighton for a big move to Arsenal.

They could now reinvest some of the White cash into Colley, and Potter may well be a fan from Colley’s time in Sweden.

The Gambian ace, 28, was starring for Djurgardens whilst Potter was banging Ostersund, and he may have stuck around in Potter’s mind.

Leeds have been heavily linked with Colley, and there would be a certain irony in former Elland Road loanee White funding a move for Brighton to go and sign Colley.
