Brighton are in talks with Benfica over a move for centre-forward Darwin Nunez, claims Daily Mail.
What’s the story?
According to the publication, the deal would be worth £25m.
That’s just over £3m more than what the Portuguese giants paid Almeria for the ace. The Spanish outfit also have a 20% sell-on clause installed into the 22-year-old’s contract.
Should the Seagulls complete a move for the Uruguay international, it would be a club-record transfer. Enock Mwepu is the current club-record signing, joining Graham Potter’s side for £22m back in July.
Nunez has been in great form for Benfica in the Primeira Liga since his move last summer. He scored 14 times and notched up 12 assists in just 44 games last season.
The player clashed with Kieran Tierney during Arsenal’s Europa League game against the Eagles last season.

Last campaign was both torturous and great for the seaside outfit.
The build-up play and tactics were inspired by Potter’s men, impressing numerous different pundits and former players.
However, their finishing was abysmal, and part of the reason they were battling relegation.
For the entirety of the 2020/2021 season, Brighton had an expected goals tally of 53, however, only managed to score 40. Their performances should have had the club finishing in a staggering fifth-place in the top-flight.
It’s a sign of how desperately the side needed an out-and-out goalscorer.
And in Nunez, that is exactly who they could sign this summer.
A striker is a priority for the outfit this summer. They can ill-afford to go into this season with the same forwards as last season, a group of player, who let them down badly.
