Report: Brighton hope Spurs target Ben White agrees new deal this term

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White is attracting the attention of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, according to reports.

According to a report from The Argus, Brighton are hopeful that they will be able to agree a new contract with Ben White before the end of the season as he begins to attract attention from some of their Premier League rivals.

The Sun reported earlier in the week that the Seagulls defender – who is currently on loan at Newport County – is being monitored by Tottenham and Liverpool after he rejected a new deal at his parent club.

But The Argus is suggesting that Chris Hughton’s men are hoping that they will be able to agree fresh terms with the 20-year-old before the summer when he will begin the final year of his current contract at the Amex Stadium.

It will be interesting to see whether the interest coming from Spurs and the Reds has any impact on White’s desire to sign a new contract with Brighton, as he would certainly be forgiven for considering his options given the teams keeping a keen eye on his progress.

Staying with Brighton arguably seems to represent White’s best chance of enjoying game-time in the Premier League in the near future – provided that they manage to keep themselves away from the bottom three – but he may perhaps feel that his development will be best served linking up with either Mauricio Pochettino or Jurgen Klopp.

But Brighton may be hoping that they can convince the defender that the clearest path to the first-team is with them as they look to get the youngster to put any questions about his future to bed before the end of the campaign.
