Brighton and Hove Albion are planning to sign the Tavernier brothers from Rangers and Middlesbrough this summer even if they are relegated from the Premier League, according to 90Min.
When ‘Project Re-start’ gets underway this season, the Seagulls will be under pressure to take flight straight from the first whistle.
Brighton are just two points above the relegation zone as it stands.
The wins and the goals have dried up since the turn of the year and, while the Graham Potter’s side play some of the prettiest football in the top-flight, that will count for nothing unless they can get a few valuable results on the board.
But if 90Min are to be believed, Brighton will look to sign both Marcus and James Tavernier even if they do tumble back into the Championship.
James Tavernier, the Rangers captain and the elder of the two, might not be the finest defender in Britain but there are not many full-backs who can match his productivity in the final third.
The former Newcastle youngster produced 15 assists during 2019/20 and would certainly offer more than Martin Montoya in the final third at Brighton.
Younger brother Marcus, meanwhile, is a versatile and exciting attacker who can play anywhere in the final third. With his pace and technical ability, he’d fit Potter’s system like a tailored glove.
The Tavernier brothers are not the only targets on Brighton’s radar, however.
Le10 Sport claims that Boulaye Dia, a £13 million forward who scored eight times for Reims this season, also has admirers at the Amex.
Though Brighton will probably need Premier League football if they are to finance a deal for the 23-year-old Frenchman.
