Brighton & Hove Albion are set to win the race to sign Villarreal star Pervis Estupinan, with Tottenham one of the sides interested in the Ecuador international this summer.
According to El Comercio, the Seagulls are close to a £14m deal with the La Liga side for the ‘electric’ South American defender, with Estupinan set to join Brighton as a replacement for Marc Cucurella, who signed for Chelsea in a £50m deal earlier in the transfer window.
Estupinan is regarded by many as one of the best fullbacks in Spain and a key player for Unai Emery’s side, who last season reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, yet despite reported interest from Tottenham, it is Brighton who have now won the race for the 24-year-old left-back.
With Antonio Conte’s side on the verge of signing 19-year-old Udinese fullback Destiny Udogie, it makes sense why Tottenham have now lost out on Estupinan to Brighton, with the north London side also already bringing Ivan Perisic in from Inter Milan with Ryan Sessegnon also thriving under the Italian manager.
Indeed, Tottenham’s left-back and left-wingback positions are stacked, to say the least, and whilst Estupinan would have been an incredible addition, Brighton winning the race for the defender makes more sense for almost every party involved, with the Seagulls landing an incredible replacement for Cucurella.
Fast, athletic and accomplished down the left, Estupinan has all the qualities needed to thrive in the Premier League, and for Brighton, they might have actually improved on the position despite losing Cucurella for a huge fee this summer to Chelsea, with the Ecuador international perfect for Graham Potter’s system.
Brighton might have landed a masterstroke signing in Estupinan

Brighton have been landed over the years for their incredible work in the transfer market, and Estupinan could well be their latest masterstroke signing following the sale of Cucurella, with the Ecuador star more than ready to take England by storm and to take the south coast side to the next level.
With Ecuador set to kick-off the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Qatar this November, Estupinan will want to be match fit and in the form of his life ahead of the tournament this winter, and the defender could find a perfect home in Brighton after Tottenham missed out on signing the 24-year-old fullback.
