The Genk defender was on the books of Tottenham Hotspur as a teenager.
Troost-Ekong in action for Spurs
Brighton & Hove Albion are battling Norwich City to sign former Tottenham Hotspur defender William Troost-Ekong, according to a report in Thursday’s Sun newspaper (page 57)
Troost-Ekong, who was born in the Netherlands but represents Nigeria at international level, is currently on the books of Belgian giants Genk, having spent the 2015-16 campaign on loan at Norwegians, Haugesund.
The 22-year-old was with Spurs until as recently as 2013, and has since turned out for Dutch pair FC Groningen and FC Dordrecht.
Norwich are returning to the Championship after a year away
Both Brighton and Norwich will be aiming for promotion from next season’s Championship, with the Seagulls defeated by Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs and the Norfolk side dropping out of the Premier League.
And there could be a vacancy at the Amex Stadium, after Brighton released Gordon Greer last month.
Greer has been allowed to leave Brighton
Norwich, though, may find Troost-Ekong more difficult to accommodate, with Russell Martin, Sebastien Bassong, Timm Klose and Ryan Bennett all vying for places.
The imposing centre-back, who has six caps for the Super Eagles, has two years left on his deal in Belgium, though he is yet to play for Genk in a competitive fixture.
Klose only arrived at Carrow Road in January
