Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly keen on Celtic striker Moussa Dembele.
According to the Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in snapping up Celtic striker Moussa Dembele in January – but they may struggle to reach the £30million asking price.
Dembele, 21, joined Celtic in a bargain deal back in the summer of 2016 after his Fulham contract expired, and he excelled last season with 32 goals in 49 games for the Bhoys.
The French under-21 international has continued to thrive this season, scoring eight times in 14 appearances in all competition, but speculation persists over his future.
Dembele has been linked with a whole host of English sides, and the Daily Mail now report that Brighton and Hove Albion are plotting a club-record bid for Dembele in January.
The Seagulls need a new striker, and are allegedly willing to offer £20million for Dembele, shattering their club-record outlay – but it’s claimed that Celtic’s asking price is £30million.
It seems unlikely that Brighton would be able to bridge that £10million gap midway through the season, and Celtic are unlikely to give any sort of discount given that they are under no pressure to sell.
Many would question just why Dembele would leave Europa League football to go and join Brighton, but a move back to England may be inevitable in 2018, with a summer move more likely than a January deal.
Celtic certainly shouldn’t sell for just £20million given the striker’s exceptional record, and whilst Brighton may well want Dembele, it would be a huge surprise to see the Seagulls secure his signature.
