Sheffield Wednesday and their Championship rival reportedly want to sign Sam Morsy this summer.

According to a report from West London Sport, Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing Wigan captain Sam Morsy this summer, but Brentford are also interested in landing the Egypt international.

Morsy was an excellent performer for the Latics in their first season back in the Championship. The 27-year-old started 40 times in the league as Paul Cook’s men secured another year in the second tier.

But it appears that he could be on his way to one of their Championship rivals this summer. West London Sport reports that the Owls and Bees both want the former Chesterfield man.

Both Wednesday and Thomas Frank’s men registered top-half finishes, but neither managed to put together much of a push for the play-offs. But they definitely have the potential to put themselves in the mix next season.

Morsy’s combative style in the middle of the park complemented the flair that Wigan boasted further up the pitch, so he may be an incredibly shrewd addition for either Wednesday or Brentford.

It looks set to be a big summer for Steve Bruce at Hillsborough. The Owls showed promise following his appointment, but have released a number of players who had previously been first-team regulars at various points during their time at Wednesday, and have seen their impressive loan signings return to their parent clubs, so there is plenty of work to do during the coming months.
