Brentford boss Dean Smith has been said to be on Aston Villa’s shortlist as they look for a new manager.
According to a report in the London Evening Standard, Brentford are not expecting Aston Villa to come in for Dean Smith.
The Daily Mirror have suggested that Smith has a chance of landing the Villa job, following Roberto Di Matteo’s dismissal.
Smith is currently the third favourite with the bookies’ to become the Claret and Blues’ next manager, but Brentford are said to be relaxed about the speculation.
Brentford do not feel that Villa will target Smith, and they are confident that the former Walsall boss is happy at Griffin Park.
Smith is a Villa fan, and is local to the area, but Brentford are confident that they can keep hold of their current manager.
Brentford are currently comfortably ahead of Villa in the Championship table, after the Midlands side’s terrible start to the new campaign.
Villa have won just one of their first 11 league matches this term, leaving them playing catch up in the race for promotion already.
The Villans are 10 points off the play off places, with their next match coming against Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break.
