The FC Kaiserslautern star is wanted in Germany as well.
Brentford are reportedly keen on a move for German attacker Philipp Hofmann, according to several reports in Germany this morning.
It is reported by Liga-Zwei that the FC Kaiserslautern striker is wanted The Bees this summer in order to boost the club’s hopes of gaining promotion to the Premier League at the second attempt.
German paper Kicker have also reported the interest. They claim a deal for the player could go through swiftly if Brentford meet the 2.Bundesliga club’s valuation for the player.
The catch however is the interest of fellow German outfit SV Darmstadt. The club, who were promoted to the Bundesliga last term, are said to have agreed terms with the player but not the club over a move.
Who would Brentford be getting?
Hofmann is a player with undoubted talent. The tall striker started his career at Schalke 04 before heading to Kaiserslautern in 2014. He struggled to find the net in his debut season at the club, scoring just the eight goals in 33 appearances, but his talent precedes him.
His record for the German youth teams is probably what has alerted Brentford to his services.
He has scored nine goals in 17 games for the Germany Under-21s and has scored goals for his country from under-18 level up.
