Celtic are reportedly keen on both Jason Denayer and Emilio Izaguirre.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during the first leg UEFA Champions League Qualifier between Celtic and Rosenborg at Celtic Park Stadium on July 25, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of bringing left back Emilio Izaguirre back to the club – and wants a return for Jason Denayer too.

The Bhoys have tied up just two deals this summer as Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard have made their loan moves permanent, though Lewis Morgan has returned from his loan at St Mirren to start his Celtic career.

Manager Rodgers still has a few weeks to bring new signings in, with the Scottish deadline at the end of the month rather than Thursday like in England, but two targets appear to be emerging – and they have both already donned the famous green and white hoops.

The Scottish Sun report that Celtic are interested in signing both Jason Denayer and Emilio Izaguirre, who last played for the Bhoys in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

It’s even stated that a deal for Izaguirre is actually close to completion, whilst the Bhoys are monitoring Denayer’s situation, potentially as a replacement for fellow Belgian Dedryck Boyata should he earn a big move to England.

Izaguirre, 32, first joined Celtic from Motagua in his native Honduras back in 2010 having played at the World Cup in South Africa, and the left back went on to make more than 250 appearances for Celtic in a superb spell.

The veteran moved on to Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia last year, but is now a free agent and looks set to return to Celtic in order to offer cover and competition at left back for Kieran Tierney.

Meanwhile, centre back Denayer featured on loan for Celtic in the 2014-15 season, and looks set to leave Manchester City permanently this summer after a fourth loan spell away from the club – and his second with Galatasaray – came to an end.

At 23, Denayer needs to think about regular playing time, and a return to Celtic would certainly give him that, and a move back to Glasgow should be appealing given his displays there last time and the club’s Champions League ambitions – but whether Celtic can finally tempt him back remains to be seen, even if he has no future with City.
