Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Lyon striker Moussa Dembele at Celtic.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers (R) and Moussa Dembele are seen during a training session at Lennoxtown Training Centre on December 29, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report in The Daily Record, in the summer of 2018, Brendan Rodgers suggested to Moussa Dembele to leave Celtic and join Leicester City or Newcastle United.

It has been reported that last summer Rodgers suggested to the 22-year-old French striker that they move to Premier League club Leicester together.

The former Liverpool manager reportedly did not want the youngster to leave for Lyon in the summer of 2018, and is claimed to have promised him to take him to either Leicester or Newcastle when he eventually left the Hoops.

Rodgers recently left his managerial role at Celtic and is now the manager of Leicester in the Premier League.

Lyon move

Dembele joined French club Lyon from Celtic in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £19.7 million.

The 22-year-old striker has made 14 starts and eight substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Lyon so far this season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

The French youngster is doing well in his native France.
