According to the Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers will sell striker Kelechi Iheanacho for around £20million in order to help fund a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
It’s claimed that Rodgers is keen to reunite with Edouard. Rodgers brought him to Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, turning his loan move permanent a year later.
However, Celtic allegedly want £35million for Edouard. That fee may be difficult to pay in the current climate, with clubs feeling the impact of the global pandemic.
In order to try and fund a move, Rodgers is allegedly willing to sell Iheanacho. Leicester would want around £20million for the Nigerian, essentially moving out one striker to get one in.
Iheanacho has struggled to live up to his billing since joining from Manchester City in 2017, but has at least shown quality this season. With seven goals and three assists in 17 games, Iheanacho has finally started contributing for the Foxes.
Rodgers even called Iheanacho a ‘big talent’ when speaking to Four Four Two in January, but may now axe him in order to reunite with Edouard.
The Leicester boss believes that he can beat huge clubs to Edouard because of their prior relationship and the chance to play in the Champions League – something Arsenal and Everton can’t offer.
Edouard has been simply outstanding this season with 27 goals and 19 assists in 45 games. The Frenchman may be viewed as Jamie Vardy’s long-term heir at Leicester, and Celtic fans would no doubt loathe to see Rodgers raid them for their star striker.
