Celtic are determined not to be held to ransom by Stuart Armstrong, as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to negotiate a new contract.

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Celtic have issued a warning to Stuart Armstrong – after his contract talks have stalled.

Brendan Rodgers is determined to tie Armstrong down to a new deal, with the midfielder having just one year left on his contract.

However, the two parties are said to be some way away from agreeing a new deal, as things stand.

Armstrong is looking for a significant increase in wages at Celtic, after enjoying an excellent season last campaign.

Rodgers, though, has reportedly warned Armstrong that he won’t be held to ransom by his demands.

Celtic already have a number of options in central midfield, and although Rodgers wants to keep Armstrong, they realise they could still raise a big fee for the Scottish international.

The Sun claim that both Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion are both interested in snapping up Armstrong this summer, with a fee of around £10 million likely to be enough to make Celtic consider selling.
