Brown is now 32, and Celtic are starting to make plans for the future without him.
Rodgers feels that McGinn could cover the void left when Brown eventually retires, but getting the 22-year-old to move to Parkhead could be a challenge.
Ipswich Town have stolen a march on Celtic, by submitting an opening bid of £1.2 million for the midfielder.
Hibs have rejected that offer, but Ipswich could return with an improved bid in the near future.
And that could be a blow to Rodgers’ transfer plans at Celtic this summer.
Celtic have made one signing during the transfer window so far, with Jonny Hayes arriving from Aberdeen.
